We co-organized and attended the third edition of the Draaifeest (Dutch Turning Festival) in Almen, the Netherlands. Draaifeest is an annual event where about 25 people interested in the craft come together to participate in a workshop, learn from each other, share experiences, and make plans. We had the wonderful company of @vershout, @malushout, @bob.krijnen, and @handgemaakt.geluk as co-teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pieterjan gave his first workshop in forging hooks, and Martijn taught a workshop on turning plates and bowls with handles without using an axe. Many brought their most beautiful bowls, and on Saturday evening, a small “Log to Bowl” competition was held. The goal was to make a bowl with a diameter of 15.4 cm from half a log as quickly as possible, without making any mistakes. It was an enjoyable spectacle for the spectators, but strenuous work for the participants. The fastest time was 15 minutes and 4 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a wonderful weekend with many learning moments and connections between craftsmen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
