Today we’re swapping the small-item lathe for the trusty old pole lathe. We’re making lidded boxes. To ensure the lid fits snugly on the box after drying and doesn’t warp, we’re making both from quarter-split wood. Therefore, we have to start with a large log, which is split into quarter-cut pieces. After marking out the box and lid, it can be carved into shape with and axe and turned. Nothing new for now, which shows that Pieterjan has become very proficient with the techniques involved in working with green wood on the pole lathe during the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martijn maked a box with a lid, and Pieterjan didn’t just make any lid, but one shaped like a bowl. This way, you could store olives in the box and have a bowl handy for the stones when the olives are being eaten!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

To round off these three days, we took out the modified lathe for small items and made a few Christmas trees. A simple object with a nice result. Perfect for demonstrations around Christmas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
